About Tagore Central Library

Tagore Central Library is a learning resource centre for the HBTU, Kanpur academic fraternity. The The Library holds a rich collection of printed as well as electronic resources which include books, journals, E-Databases, E-journals etc. The library is subscribing  more than thirty thousand of full text electronic journals and databases like Science Direct, IEEEXplore, American Chemical Society, ASCE, ASME, Springerlink, Emerald etc.  to the research community of the University through under One Nation One Subscription (ONOS). Tagore Central Library is fully computerized library using an Open Source Software KOHA-LMS for its housekeeping operations. The Library offers convenient campus-wide access to digital resources through its subscription to e-databases & e-journals and also facilitate to finds out the real-time availability of library materials from their own computer terminals.

Objectives

  • To develop appropriate collections in various disciplines for satisfying the needs of the diverse clientele of the libraries.
  • To facilitate appropriate and user-friendly access to current and relevant information to its patrons.
  • To provide reading, lending, reference, information and documentation facilities to all categories of users.
  • To provide documentation and comprehensive reference/information services.
  • To support the educational and information need of the institute by providing physical and intellectual access to information.

Library Services

Access to Electronic Journals and Database

All the e-resources like ebooks, e-journals, databases, e-theses etc using our E- Library where millions of e-resources are available for  research community of the HBTU, Kanpur. We are also offering remote access facilities to our users to access e-resources under One Nation and One Subscription (ONOS). The library also has Club Membership to National Digital Library of India (NDLI) which has a collection of more than 6 lakhs e-books & e- journals availability for use by all the stakeholders.

Web OPAC

OPAC: For searching the library collection the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility is provided. The OPAC provides detail bibliographic information of the collection holding, membership status, dues etc. Access to thesis is also provided through Online Public Access Catalogue.

Circulation Section:

Issue and return of books is handled with the help of computers. In this Section located at the main entrance gate. The timings of issue and return of books are 10:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Wi-Fi enabled Library: – It is a popular technology that allows an electronic device to exchange data wirelessly (using radio waves) over a computer network, including high-speed Internet connections. A library user with enabled Wi-Fi (i.e. Mobile, Tablet, Laptop etc.) device can access library resources like online journals e-achieves, e-thesis and library OPAC etc.)

Digital Library & Internet Services: – There are 14 computers in the Digital Library is having Internet Access permission. It gives the facility to access e- resources, full text online journals/books as well as full text thesis archive.

Seating Capacity – Library is having seating capacity to accommodate 250+ students at a time.

Gate Entry system:-

The Gate Entry Monitoring System is used to record the entry and exit of registered visitors to the library through barcode scanning of ID cards. The module is designed to ensure, validate, and authenticate the entry of bona fide library members. It also maintains accurate records of visitors’ entry and exit activities

CCTV surveillance systems in libraries are essential for safeguarding collections, deterring theft and vandalism, overseeing library activities, and enhancing the overall safety of users.
